Disinfecting Instruments & Bows
Areas that can be disinfected: the chinrest on the violin and the frog on the bow. When cleaning the chinrest, please be sure no disinfectant comes in contact with the wood of the instrument as that could strip the varnish. When cleaning the frog, make sure no disinfectant comes in contact with the horsehair.

Because the instrument is varnished wood, the only household cleaner that can be used is Simple Green. It is a degreaser, essentially, but not a disinfectant.

Prior to playing or handing the instrument and bow, I recommend washing hands with soap and water. (I do not recommend hand sanitizer, as any potential residual rubbing alcohol is not good for the varnish.
