May 18th Update:
 Assignment recalled.

May 12th Update

This week’s assignment:“Environment Survey + Cause/Effect”
Due Monday, May 18th

Note: This assignment can be found as a Word document in the "Lessons" blue bullet-point link to your left.

Part 1:

  1. Take the survey on Page 1 (make sure to total your answers).
  2. Post a FlipGrid video talking about your totals.
    1.  What column did you score the highest/lowest and why? Where would you like to improve/not improve and why? Continue to check FlipGrid and discuss with your classmates. Video responses will be moderated, so keep it on topic.

Part 2:

  1. Write out the two Effects for the two Causes on Page 2.
  2. Add another page to the word document.
  3. In the same format as the two given Effects, pick two of the Categories from the survey on Page 1.
  4. Turn the two chosen Categories from Page 1 into Causes and write how your response (and all the people who would respond the same way) has an effect on the environment.
    1. (E.g. Cause = Planting a tree ==>  Effect = I planted a tree as a symbolic act and if everyone did the same global warming could be slowed. Trees remove C02 from the atmosphere and also replace natural habitats that have been destroyed by deforestation.)

Part 3:

  1. E-mail me the document once completed:
    1. Make sure you completed all steps from Part 1.
    2. Make sure you completed all steps from Part 2.

May 7th Update

NOTE: The May 1st Update assignment criteria below still holds. To clarify, the Brainstorm due tomorrow Friday, May 8th refers to Page 2 of the “Trash to Treasure” Word document. Only the six questions and the table are due. These questions are to help you get started and the table is a brief outline of how you are going to manage your time. Let me know if you need more time, however, this should be done as soon as possible so that you allow yourself enough time to make your project, write the paper, and do a Flipgrid video by Wednesday, May 20th.

May 1st, 2020 Update (New Project)

Thank you for all the wonderful Biome Project submissions! (I am still accepting projects if you have not finished yet.) Please continue to comment and discuss on each other’s posts in Padlet and FlipGrid. Remember to keep it positive and that I need to approve everything before it will appear on the site.

Upcoming Due Dates:

Note: The below assignments can be found in the "Lessons" tab on your left.

·         I assigned you a brief reading activity with 8 multiple choice questions and 2 open ended questions due Wednesday, May 6th. (submit via email)

·         Your next major project is called “Trash to Treasure” and is due Wednesday, May 20th.

o   Part 1 – Brainstorming is due Friday, May 8th. (submit via email)

Please use your time next week to document your brainstorming for your project and start prospecting necessary supplies. You should not need to go out and spend any money for this project as it can be done with trash and objects found around the home.

Just a heads up that I will be assigning another activity next week. Please keep in mind that if we were in school you would be doing classwork and activities, with the same project that you have 20 days to work on. Use your time wisely and be creative!

Past Update: (March)

Hello 6H and 7 Life Science students,

I hope you are all well!

Your primary objective for now are the twenty lessons available on Study Island. There are many students and parents concerned about the online work. Please pace yourselves with Study Island and online lessons. Everything does not need to be done in one day.

Things to do:

  • Sign up for Remind if you haven’t done so
  • Feel free to share on the Padlet board, in your corresponding section.
    • All posts are subjected to review. Anonymous post and individuals outside this curriculum area will not be approved.
  • Log into Flipgrid and post a video. This should be a fun way to engage with your classmates.
  • Check out some of the Science Websites , Outdoor Activities, and Useful Links, also accessible from the Front page of my teacher website.

This Page is still under construction, but I am working on implementing a way for you all to engage in school in a new way. Stay tuned.

Best regards,

Mr. Castree
