Posture
Correct posture enables us to become the best strings players we can be! Please make sure you are practicing his/her best posture at home.
Violins and Violas: 
Sit up straight on the front of a chair (or stand up straight). 
Feet flat on floor.
Take a selfie - no pizza-serving wrists. (The left wrist should not be in contact with the instrument.)
Cellos:
Sit up straight on the front of a chair.. 
Feet flat on floor.
Make sure endpin is secure. Remember not to lean on the cello.
Hold a cup of OJ with your left hand. Put a texting thumb on the back of the cello.

Bass:
Stand up straight.
Feet flat on floor.
Make sure endpin is secure. Remember not to lean on the bass.
Banana thumb on the back of the neck. Your thumb should not peek around the side of the bass.

Bow holds:
Hang index finger, middle finger and ring finger off of the stick.
Curved pinkie rests on top of the stick.
Texting thumb underneath middle finger.

Scales (2 octave):
G, D - play 3 times - each note 3x, 2x, 1x

How to practice:
1) Say rhythms out loud; don't forget rests!
2) Play rhythms on open strings.
3) Say note names out loud; shadow bow while saying note names out loud.
4) Sing/say note names out loud; shadow bow while saying/singing note names out loud.
5) Play. If it helps, say/sign note names/finger numbers out loud as you are playing.
